Misuse of Funds: I'd like to see them exposed for taking funds donated for the "worldwide work" and misusing them to provide free legal defence for JW child molesters.

Which aspect of JWs would you like to see a documentary about?
by Gadget inif you had a chance to make a documentary about some aspect of the jws, what would ou choose?
would you talk about shunning, the blood issue, explain how its a cult, or what?
unfortunately this would only be for an 8 minute segment on a current affairs programme so i need something that'll get peoples attention and make them think without having to go too deep into the subject.. what would you choose to talk about?.

Do members of GB go from house to house???
by zagor ini've always wondered this.
does anybody have first hand information if they do and how much, or is their service sort of like when co comes and goes along to book studies to give "encouragement".
or even more so, do they stand with magazines on street corners?.

For a short while in the 1970s, Jack Barr was my book study conductor, before he went to Brooklyn. I worked with him and Mildred a few times.
Of the older GB members, I'm told Jaracz is the only one who still regularly pounds the doors. I don't know about the younger ones.

Webmaster of: http://www.wimpyjesus.com/ or WT quote of playboy
by RhaGoddess indoes anyone know the webmaster of the old site http://www.wimpyjesus.com/watchtower/nice.htm ?.
i emailed with him breifly in 1999, and am currently trying to get a copy of his old website.. more specifically i swear sometime in the late 80's or possibly in the 1990's the watchtower quoted playboy magazine in an article.
i've desperately been searching for where that was, but have yet to find it with the 2004 watchtower library cd.

Faith on the March was written in 1957, long after the prohibition on blood transfusion was introduced.
However, while searching through the book for 'blood,' I found this interesting passage in Chapter 13:
One of the more serious problems I had to deal with, as I remember, was vaccinations. An order was received from the health department in Washington for all the inmates and guards to be vaccinated. Some of our boys in one prison in particular considered this the same as blood transfusions, and refused to submit. This caused considerable trouble. Then the order came from Washington to put all the men who refused to be vaccinated in solitary confinement. This did not change our men. The prison authorities hesitated to be overly strict about it; still they had their orders from headquarters. Well, during the excitement I arrived on my regular visit. Now the matter was put up to me to advise our men. I asked the Warden to permit me to talk to all the men who refused to be vaccinated... We had an interesting time. For about half an hour the men talked about the evils of vaccination, and so on. After all had had their say, I told them, “We’re wasting time talking about the evils of vaccination because much could be said both ways. The point for us to consider is what are we going to do about being vaccinated. They have you all where they could vaccinate an elephant, and they will vaccinate you all.” Up spoke the leader of the resistance and said: “What would you do if you were in prison and were called up for vaccination?“ “I was in prison,” I reminded them, “and I bared my arm and received the shot. Furthermore, all of us who visit our foreign branches are vaccinated or we stay at home. Now vaccination is not anything like blood transfusion. No blood is used in the vaccine. It is a serum. So you would not be violating those Scriptures which forbid taking blood into your system.
So, was this the reason why they quietly dropped this doctrine in the late 1940s or 1950s?

Herbert Armstrong/WWCOG ??
by Junction-Guy intonight while at a restaurant discussing jw topics my mom told me that herbert armstrong was on the wt society board of directors years ago and that he ended up leaving over doctrinal issues, and was subsequently branded an apostate by the wt society, and after this he founded the worldwide church of god.
can anybody else verify this?
it does seem believable since a majority of the wwcog doctrines mirror those of the wt society.

Welcome back, Alan.
Some years ago, one of the Brooklyn steering groups examined how the WCG reformed themselves, to see what lessons could be applied to WT. I never learned the full conclusions of the study, but gathered that the implications for WT were thought to be just too horrendous: massive loss of membership, massive drop in literature sales, massive loss of funds, having to sell off of numerous properties that had become surplus to requirements.
So, I wonder why the WT didn't follow their example...?
This is a brief history of the WCG :

Jaffacake,
I collect these kind of quotations.
So do I. Here are some from my collection:
We need to examine, not only what we personally believe, but also what is taught by any religious organization with which we may be associated… If we are lovers of the truth, there is nothing to fear from such an examination. - The Truth That Leads to Eternal Life, p. 13, par. 5
Fraud and deception run from investigation; truth welcomes it. - Unknown
Fact is fact and truth is truth; no matter from whence it comes. - Unknown
It is error alone which needs the support of authority. Truth can stand by itself. - Thomas Jefferson, Notes on Virginia
We swallow greedily any lie that flatters us, but we sip only little by little at a truth we find bitter. - Denis Diderot
I love you, and because I love you, I would sooner have you hate me for telling you the truth than adore me for telling you lies. - Pietro Aretino
I do not believe that truth has anything to fear from open discussion, any reason to hide from careful scrutiny. Any teaching that has to be shielded from such investigation does not deserve to be upheld. - Unknown
Now the latter were more noble-minded than those in Thessalonica, for they received the word with the greatest eagerness of mind, carefully examining the Scriptures daily as to whether these things were so. - Acts 17:11, New World Translation
Keep testing whether you are in the faith, keep proving what you yourselves are. - 2 Corinthians 13:5, New World Translation
When persons are in great danger from a source that they do not suspect or are being misled by those they consider their friends, is it an unkindness to warn them? They may prefer not to believe the warning. They may even resent it. But does that free one from the moral responsibility to give that warning? ... God’s servants… have had to expose falsehood and wrongdoing and warn people of dangers and deception… It would have been far easier to keep silent or say only what people wanted to hear. - The Watchtower, January 15, 1974, p. 35
Therefore, how will you respond when pointed statements are made about false religious teachings and corrupt practices? Will you immediately condemn the person… making the exposé? Do you feel it is all right to teach lies and misrepresent God’s Word, but wrong to expose the error? Contrary to what some may think, it is not unkind and unloving to lay bare falsehood and corruption. - The Watchtower, March 1, 1966, p. 132
It is not religious persecution for an informed person to expose publicly a certain religion as being false... it is a public service.. - The Watchtower, November 15, 1963, p. 688 par. 3
A religion that teaches lies cannot be true. - The Watchtower, December 1, 1991, p. 7
WOULD YOU RATHER HAVE THE TRUTH COVERED OVER . . . ? . . . OR DO YOU WANT TO KNOW THE FACTS? - The Watchtower, January 15, 1974, p. 35 (picture caption)
Only persons truly responsible for injustice prefer silence and seek to impose it. - Unknown
As you will see, a number of them are either unattributed (i.e. "Unknown") or the attributions are incomplete. If anyone can fill in these gaps, it would be appreciated.
Carla,
Many thanks for adding a new quotation to my collection!

Hi Sam,
First, welcome to JWD. May it help you exit the org, if that's what you want to do.
Whilst at London Bethel, I witnessed this first hand. I know that it went on there.
How literally do you mean "at first hand"...??
When I was there in the '70s, there were a couple of lads who were rather 'camp' but I never personally witnessed--or, to be honest, even suspected--any homosexual activity going on.
Ewart Chitty left for Brooklyn after I'd been there a year or so, and though he'd always been civil enough with me, I later heard whisperings among some of the younger lads that he'd been very 'friendly' and invited them for a 'Welcome to Bethel' sauna.
However, I always found his old roommate, Edgar Clay, rather creepy, in a funny sort of old-woman-ish way. Was he still alive when you were there?
Those from Brooklyn Bethel (I understand that there are a few ex Brooklyn Bethelites here), the question I have for you is 'Did you witness/hear of any over your side of the pond?'
Quite a lot has already been mentioned about this on old posts. You might want to try searching through the archives using Google Search.
Hope you stick around.
